While in South Dakota we visited the Mammoths Site!!! This site was created when a shift in the earths plates created a hole in the earth that filled with water and plants. As the Mammoths migrated (at 3 miles a YEAR) they past this hole and when they tried to drink or eat they would fall in. The walls were to slick and they could not get out so they would die of drownding. As they settled to the bottom they were layered with the soil and made into a concert. In 1974 a man bought this land not knowing that these bones where there and while digging found bones. He sold the land back to South Dakota and now it is a place to go visit to see an actual Mammoth dig site. There are other bones that they have found like the Short Nose Bear. This bear is almost 3 times bigger than the Polar Bear.
